If you are a parent, guardian, or high school student looking to enroll your child or yourself with CUBS, please fill in our new student intake form by clicking here! If CUBS has space to take on new students, we will send you an email to fill out our scheduling survey, and the student will be added to our current schedule. In the case that we are fully scheduled and unable to take on a new student, you will be added to the waitlist, and contacted when a spot opens up.
Tutoring FAQs
How Does the Schedule Work?
CUBS Tutoring occurs across three different seasons:
- Fall: September to November
- Winter: January to March
- Summer: May to July
There is no CUBS tutoring during the months of December, April, and August to allow our tutors time to focus on successfully completing their final examinations at the end of the academic term. Each student is scheduled with 1-3 tutors per term, having 1 session per week with each tutor, focusing on different subjects.
What do Tutoring Sessions Look Like?
Typical sessions will start with an icebreaker or a game, followed by a lesson prepared by the tutor. Lesson content will frequently feature interactive aspects, such as learning games, drawing, writing, and mini projects. Tutors can assist with student’s homework, supporting their class curriculum, and fostering their academic interests.
As CUBS aims to support our students throughout their academic journeys and towards their future ambitions, tutors may also cover content such as:
- School Strategies (effective study methods, note-taking strategies, tips for writing exams)
- Professional Development (editing resumes, writing cover letters, looking at post-secondary programs)
- And countless other topics, tailored to our students
How Does Communication Work?
For students already enrolled with CUBS, the scheduling procedure is as follows:
Before the start of each term, the CUBS Education Director will reach out by text message to send out the scheduling survey. Once parents submit their requests, the Education Team will create a schedule. When we have a tutor confirmed, you will receive a text from the Education Director with the student’s schedule.
Tutors are also given access to your phone number, and will communicate over text if any sessions need to be reschedule. If email contact is preferred, please let us know!
What is the CUBS Code of Conduct?
- CUBS thrives on mutual respect and trust between our team members and families, and we ask that students and parents remain respectful when talking to tutors. Harsh language, insults, or hurtful comments will not be tolerated
- Please do your best to have the student attend their sessions on time. If a student is repeatedly absent or late to their sessions, the Education Director will reach out to determine if we can reschedule or offer support that best fits the needs of your family
- If a session needs to be cancelled or rescheduled, please try to provide the tutor with at least 24 hours’ notice. All of our tutors are post-secondary students with a high number of responsibilities, and they will greatly appreciate prompt communication regarding cancellations
- If you have concerns about your child’s tutoring, please contact the Education Director directly to share your concerns. From there, CUBS will proceed with our internal incident process
- If you would like to share feedback for CUBS, please visit the ‘Contact Us’ page to share your thoughts. We ask that feedback is respectful and constructive. CUBS is always working to grow as an organization, and we would be happy to connect about ways we can improve!
